HELMUT LANG

WOMENS SPRING 2010 COLLECTION
“This season we explored the tension that is created when you mix structured elements with a draped form. Through
the use of draping, tucking and twisting, we sought to imbue a new softness in the collection in an untraditional way.
We were focusing on body consciousness in different ways, engineering the prints to follow the body and the way the
drape falls into the body. Delicate Laser cut washed paper thin leather and structured graphic lace mixed with
sprayed twisted ombre chiffons and featherweight jerseys.
The Prints were an investigation in texture and materials that comes from industrial environments and elements such
as oil on concrete, foils, cellophanes and crumpled metals inspired by a variety of artists like Anselm Reyle and his
use of reflective films in his paintings. The red watery chiffon ‘inferno’ print was inspired by Merlin Spie’s painting La
Petite Musette, and his use of heavy reds.
The colors were inspired by Berlinde De Bruyckere’s wax sculptures and the use of fleshy color – in addition Francis
Bacon’s carnal reds, nudes and blackish blues from the second version of triptych.”
